Re: Has my endo come back already? From: Mel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Oct 30 10:46:09 2002
Hi, Susan! I hope you see this message, because I didn't totally fit the Celiac profile. One of the things I was told was that people with Celiac Disease tend to lose weight for no reason. However, I was gaining weight quickly. I wasn't hungry, but my body seemed to want something and I kept eating. Since April, I've lost 20 pounds and I wasn't trying to. Unlike you, I was a big bread eater. Even though you're not a bread/pasta eater, gluten is in lots of things from flour, starches, vinegar, flavorings, colorings, preservatives, oils, etc. According to my doctor(gastroenterologist), Celiac Disese is rarely tested for in the US. However in other parts of the world, children are tested during their infant/toddler years. You may want to get in touch with a doctor who can test for Celiac Disease. I had colonoscopy and upper GI done, but both were normal. However, the 3 Celiac Disease antibody tests came back positive. The gulten-free diet isn't too bad. The hard thing is that it's almost impossible to eat out or eat at a family gathering, because you never know for sure what's in the food. I contact a lot of manufactures/restaurant managers to see if I can eat their food. Most people have been nice/understanding. However, I've had a few restaurants (Chilli's, AppleBee's) tell me to not eat anything at their restaurant. Hope this helps!
