Hi Mel, I just got a call from my doctor this morning that my iron level is still really low. I have had this problem for a year now and I am taking iron supplements (300mg per day). I am supposed to take one every day but I don't like taking that much so it is usually every other day. I also have a bowl of 100% Bran cereal every morning and it has 29% of the recommended daily amount. I have never had heavy periods, I had a colonoscopy last December to check for colon cancer and that was clear. I don't seem to fit into the usual circumstances for iron deficiency in pre-menopausal women. It doesn't seem to matter what I do the levels won't go up.

I was just about to go checking for diseases that can cause iron deficiency when I read your email here. It was the coincidence of timing that caught my attention. I believe I have read about Celiac Disease before and didn't seem to fit into that profile either as I don't eat breads, pasta or starchy foods much at all. I will give it another look though just in case I missed something before. Thanks for posting about this.
