Dear Anon:

I don't feel it is "our" fault for having endo but I do think that your surgeon realizes/believes that a macrobiotic may be helpful re endo -- is it proven, no, BUT for *me*, diet makes a *huge* difference. Yes, your surgeon could ease up on you -- after all, ice cream and all the other wonderful food in this world is one of lifes great pleasures :o). I must admit though that those many wonderful yummies did flare my endo pain. Honestly, although I wouldn't like it if my doctor made me feel like its my fault that I have endo for not following a restrictive diet - BUT I would like the fact that he is knowledgeable/insightful enough to realize that diet has a great impact on our health. So in that regard, I wish more doctors/surgeons were like your surgeon in that your surgeon is trying to help you live a better life with less surgery and less pain. Yes, it sucks that many of us with endo must restrict our diets to "control" our endo, but that is just the way it is. For some reason, we got stuck with these screwed up genes which have turned against us! So we have to do what we can to manage it. So I think you should step back and look at your surgeon from a different perspective -- rather than being defensive and offended, try to look at it from the perspective of being appreciative for his insight -- I'm serious about this -- I would appreciate it if my doctors tried to help/educate me as to how to prevent maladies as opposed to simply treating them. I actually think you're lucky to have such an enlightened specialist. Yes, a macrobiotic diet will not *cure* you, but it very well could have a profound effect re your endo recurrence. Then again lol, you did say that you are already a vegetarian lol -- for me, though, I must stay away from phytoestrogens like soy products, beans, flax seed, and whatever else flared me.
