Re: Anyone had a Laparotomy performed?

Hi Heather,

I have had three laparotomies in the past four years. It took only three weeks to return to work after the second one. The first one was tough, I think because it was totally unexpected and I couldn't prepare. The third would have been a quick recovery if I hadn't developed an infection two weeks after surgery. I ended up back in the hospital for a few days. Total time out of work for that one was a month. I think you should be fine to return to school in three weeks. Just don't push yourself. Take any help that is offered.

The best advice I can give you is: prepare. Set everything up in the bedroom (reading material, snacks, small refridgerator if you have it, etc.)

Please feel free to email me if I can answer any other questions for you. Try not to be nervous. You'll do fine.

Take care, Dena
