Re: Back pain and periods

Hey, Back pain can be a symptom of endo. Endo cells can travel many places in the body, and the lower back region is no exception (neither is the bowel). Back pain and bowel troubles can be a symptom of a normal period, but bad ones are a common symptom of endo. When I am having a bad month I get back pain pretty severely. Oh, and for years I only had symptoms before and during my periods.

About the pill, although it is used to "treat" endo, it is certainly not a cure all (nothing is, lucky us) so just because you are on the pill and having pain similar to endo doesn't rule endo out. In fact, I have heard some people having worsened pain while on the pill. From what I have heard over the last year dealing with this disease and learning about it, lupron does help many women with their pain, but not without some unpleasant side effects that might actually not outweigh the benefits on balance for some (although certainly not all) endo sufferers. Point is, everyone is different, both with their physical reaction to these treatments and their own preference for wanting to try them or not.

Good luck trying to reason with your doctor. I went through a few of them until I finally found one confident enough in his own professionalism to admit I actually might know what was going on in my body better than they did (surprise surprise.) I definitely think you should seek a second opinion if your insurance allows you to do so. You might ask some of the women on this board to recommend a doctor who specializes in endo in your area. At the very least you should have an ultrasound to rule out other conditions that you might have which migh be easily treatable, like ovarian cysts, etc.

Hope all is well, keep us updated, and good luck!
