Re: Endometriosis and surgical complicationsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Oct 11 12:33:53 2002
Endometriosis can be induced at new points throughout the pelvic cavity (or elsewhere) through iatrogenic transplantation (also referred to in simpler terms as "doctor caused"). All that means is, if you didn't have Endo on your ovary, for example, and during surgery the physician accidentally transferred it from a ligament to that ovary, then that would be called iatrogenic transplantation. It DOES NOT, however, explain the presence of Endo to begin with and surgery does not "cause" Endo. Also, given the precautions taken and advances in procedures today, iatrogenic transplantation is unlikely in surgical patients. Possible, but unlikely. Hope that helps.
>My belief was some-what backed up by an EmerGen MD saying that it is well known that women can get Endo from surgical complications. I am having a difficult time finding research on this though. Does anyone know if this information is correct?<
