Re: Having laporoscopy tomorrow but Doc also has laparotomy possibility?!!

I had a laparoscopy in April and before I went in, the surgeons made me sign a release form stating that a laparotomy may have to be done. They assured me that all patients having a laparoscopy done had to sign this release form. I'm not sure of your medical history but my anesthesiologist informed me that it was just in case of a mistake or major bleeding, it was so they could go in a repair the damage. This made me a little uneasy about the whole procedure. Then he also said it was also in case I had a major problem and needed something removed. I came out of surgery with only three incisions from the laparoscopy - no laparotomy. I just wanted to let you know that most of the time, it is standard procedure and the law to inform you of the possible laparotomy. In any case, I will be praying for you. ~Alicia
