lupron and birth defectsFrom: Alicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Oct 8 21:03:47 2002
I have been battling endometriosis for years. I finally found a doctor that wanted to treat my endo. First she officially diagnosed me through a laparoscopy. Then a month after the surgery, she started me on Lupron. I recieved my first injection in June. The drug worked like magic! My periods stopped and I had no pain whatsoever! Then in September I recieved my second injection. The day after the second injection, I had horrible nausea and became extremely tired. I wrote it off as side effects even though I didn't have any with the first injection. Two weeks later, I couldn't handle it anymore, I called my doctor. I went to the doctor and found out from blood tests that I am about 7 weeks pregnant. This means I was pregnant when I recieved my second injection. My doctor did not administer a pregnancy test before I got the injection...was she supposed to? I go for my ultrasound in two days but will not see a genetic counselor for 3 weeks. I understand the possibility of birth defects, but my doctor doesn't know enough to answer my questions about it. I've done research and everything I find is contradicting everything else. Exactly what kind of birth defects can I be prepared for? Anyone with any knowledge please please let me know! Thanks!
