Re: 'breakthrough bleeding'From: lauren (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Sep 26 15:15:20 2002
I don't know from personal experience, b/c I have never been on the pill, but when I was in college my roommate started bleeding while on the pill and it continued for weeks, and she was also in serious pain. Our student health center was not taking her seriously -- they were pretty pill-pushers -- and they told her the same thing they told you, continue the pill and it will go away. Finally she was in so much pain she had to skip feminist theory class, and told her understanding, female professor what was up. Her professor became really mad and yelled at student health to let her see an md. To make a long story short, it turned out she had some kind of serious ovary infection type thing that the pill was somehow worsening, and if she had let it go much longer serious problems of an infertility sort would have resulted. Having gone through this, I would definitely think you should get a second opinion. Just because you are a woman does not mean that the fact you are bleeding for no good reason should go unexamined! Good luck, feel better.
