Re: Post surgery pain

I know its not easy.. the pain of recovery... it took a full year after I had surgery in 1995 before i started to feel 100%. Then the doctor's kept telling me that getting pregnant would keep it away... Well they right about that because I went on to have my son and then another daugther and all was well..They were ten months apart.

My youngest daughter is 3 yrs old now and I am suffering once again in pain and facing another surgery... My diagnosis after surgery was Endometrosis, Adeomyosis, Internal Hernia, and cysts endometrioma on left ovary (morgagni) and a large follicular cyst on the right. I had numerous endometrial cyst implants everywhere... and adhesions

I was in the worse stage... when the surgery was done and the doctor did not prepair me for what I would wake up to... and she stated so in her report

The patient tolerated the above procedures and her postoperative couse was basically benign except the patient was quite uncooperative during the first 48 hours (because they did not give me something stong enough for the pain)..

The second day the patient refused to talk to us .... Well I am facing the surgery once again and Ive been in a lot of pain lately .. but I am going to let the Doctor this time know up front...I want to discuss pain management up front before the surgery and after and If I am not satisfied to what she will use to control the pain I will search out other doctors and ask the same question... Im sorry but I am not going to suffer like I did before... my pain lasted for 6 months that was from severe to medium and later medium to mild.

So hang in there... and it is always wise to discuss what pain mangement the doctor will use... before having the surgery what she will use after the operation and what she tends to use after you go home from the hospital to manage the pain.. because talking to them after your in hospital and post operative sometimes does not get results that you want...

I told the nurses I needed something stronger for pain and I did not want the demoral shots in the butt because it cause me to have severe pain in the hips.I wanted something stonger by mouth... My sister in Law just recently went though surgery and her doctor used the drip pain medication where the patient can push the button when in pain ....This is much better then getting shots of demoral in the hip ..(butt).. I will discuss using Percocet during the hospital stay and during the first 6 to 8 weeks and then I dont care if she then decides to give something not as strong...

But if the doctor says no she will not then I would seach for one that will take care of my pain ... otherwise I would rather not go though the surgery and suffer as I am now...until finding a doctor that would ... manage my pain according to my tolerance.. of pain ... some people are very sensitive to pain and do not tolerate it well others have a higher tolerance to pain .. again this should always be on the minds of patients that are considering surgery

But I can give some tips to help ease the pain ... because after I went home after the first surgery ... for those of you who have a boyfriend or husband a belly message helps ... with warm massage oil .... to lessen the pain.. a hot pack ... helps to some extent... Aroma thearpy helps to reief the stress and can relax the muscles that can be tense causing more pain .. Over the counter pain medicines and herbal supplemets such as evening primose helped me and other herbal teas in the health food store ...

Diet plays a big role as well in watching what you eat or drink Caffine is big no no .. it makes endo worse... Im not saying to elimate it from your diet but limit how many caffine drinks you can have...each month... coffee and soda drinkers that drink in excess .. only makes their condition worse... and can cause more pain then you would normally have. Fried foods are not something that is wise for woman with endo either limit your intake and see the difference.

It took a full yr before I was pain free... and if not for my pregnancies I feel the endo would have come back sooner.. and for Endo coming back after hysterectomy well I have read enough about that know this up front and is exactly why I WILL NEVER HAVE A HYSTERECTOMY because even when the doctors remove the the female organs there is no gaurntee that Endo will not come back and end up all over the other organs... and abdominal wall... in my first surgery I had endo on my bladder which cause urinary infections ... and all it takes is the doctor missing one endo implant that may not been seen and it come back even after hysterectomy .... There have been cases of endo on the bowles and intestines and yes believe it even under the diaphram and in a womans armpit .... I read this in Endometriosis News letter...

However, Woman that are close to or starting Menopause have better chance of it not coming back....at all Some doctors will tell patients that dont educate themselves that Hysterctomy is the only choice to fix the problem, this is not true.... I wish you well and any other woman that suffer with this condition ... Good luck in the future ... and make wise decisions in your health care... Regina Rider
