Re: can endo cause depression?

Misty -- I just read an article that talked about significant drops in estrogen as sometimes being a trigger for depression (going on BCP, having a baby, etc.). After going through several years of pain, I feel like I live with a recovering alcoholic -- you never know when you wake in the morning if this is the day they will drink again, just like you never know if the day will be pain-free, or a nightmare of "discomfort". That kind of anxiety from day to day has caused mild depression, but nothing serious enough to warrant medication -- at least according to my drs. However, I have read that in people with a hereditary predisposition to emotional difficulties, that hormone drops can precipitate bouts of real clinical depression. Make sure you are very honest with your dr about this, it could be serious. I usually put on my best "I feel great about myself and the world" face when I visit my obgyn. I wouldn't have gone for my lap in June if I hadn't scheduled an appt for the middle of one of my bouts of depression during my period. My doc finally got to see the me that existed about 15 days of each month. Not the smiling face he happened on once a year for a 10 minute visit for a pap smear and breast exam. -- Kim
