I had this too, please don't worry. It is normal to send you for a colposcopy examination, and I did not find it painful at all. The good thing is you have attended for your smear and they are looking into it. Basically they just look inside with a pair of binoculars (well that's what it looks like to the diddy on the street!). I had PRE cancer cells, which is NOT cancer. Stage 1 they don't normally do anything with, stage 2 is borderline and stage 3 they remove. Unfortunately I had stage 3 so they froze my cervix and removed part of it, this was less painful than a smear, believe me!! I also had HPV (warts) which I attended every week for I think about 6 weeks and had them frozen off. I've heard it said that HPV and pre cancer cells tend to be connected. This I had done 5 years ago and I have had to have annual smears for 5 years after this so November this year is my last annual smear. Every one I have had has been clear. I hope you find my history helpful. Please don't spend the next 3 weeks worrying if you can cope with a smear you can certainly cope with a colposcopy. I bought a book called The Cervical Smear Test by Dr Anne Szarewski and I found this very useful, it tells you everything you need to know and more and it was only £7.99. Good luck
