Re: bleeding and crampingFrom: Chiara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Jul 21 09:29:18 2002
When I was pregnant with my oldest daughter I began to bleed (a thick reddish brown discharge) at my 9 week mark after helping my husband move some furniture. I was of course terrified and called my OB who sent me into the ER to be checked. Thankfully everything was normal. The OB on call there told me that sometimes when first pregnancies implant themselves there is still a little dead uterine lining that perhaps was not shed during the last cycle and the body discharges it around the normal time of your cycle. He also said that the uterus, and cervix are extremely sensetive during the first trimester of pregnancy and that even slight stress can irritate them and cause cramping. Hopefully this is the case with you. I will tell you that this does not sound like a miscarriage to me. I have had two and both times the bleeding was thin and very bright red along with lower back and pelvic pain that brought me to my knees. Don't worry and wait for your appointment though. Go to the ER and have them do an ultrasound to be certain. And this may sound stupid, but when I was worried, I talked to my daughter the whole day, promising her that whatever was wrong I would fix it and that she needed to trust her mommy and hang on. There was no medicinal value to it but talking to her in the womb calmed me and helped me stay focused while everything was checked out. Good luck. You'll be in my prayers.
