second trimester miscarriageFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Jul 14 15:58:39 2002
With my first pregnancy I was diagnosed with Step B through urinalysis at the beginning of my pregnancy. I was given antibiotics at the beginning of my pregnancy and when I delivered. Throughout my pregnancy there were no red flags as to there may be a problem. When I gave birth at 40+ weeks, my daughter was not breathing and had an apgar of 1. According to the pathologist report, the diagnosis was "severe acute chorioamnionitis and superficial acute villitis with omphalitis." My daughter made a miraculous recovery and after a week of every test imaginable, she was home, healthy and is now 13 months old. The doctors are not sure whether the Strep B caused the problem and didn't think I would have problems in the future. We did however decide to schedule a C Section because I had such a difficult natural birth with my daughter. >
I then got pregnant again when my daughter was 9 months old. I did not
test positive for Strep B through the urinalysis and everything was fine
until 17 weeks. At 17 weeks I had a PROM although I did not realize it
for 4 days when I started getting mild back pains. Although the heart
was still beating, an ultrasound had shown there was not amniotic fluid
around the fetus. That night I was given medication to deliver the
fetus and then had a d&c because the placenta would not detach.
> Does anyone know what the chances are for me carrying a child to term after a my prior labor experience and PROM miscarriage?
