Re: acupunctureFrom: Suzanne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jul 2 17:29:49 2002
Yes, I've done a lot of acupuncture, both before I was diagnosed with endo and after. I really like it. I especially recommend that you go as soon as you can, if your lap was recently, because it can really help you rebound. The first acupuncturist I went to, however, seemed to aggravate my endo pain. THere was just too much stimulus along the meridiens that include my ovaries (which is where I had my endo). She also was trying a technique of pounding on my back that she had just learned in China, and that was interesting. But I switched to another person, and liked her more gentle approach very much. You can't look at it as a go-twice-less-pain kind of thing: endo is seen, in TCM, as a sign of a bigger problem of stagnant blood, and their goal is to get that moving again. I find it just helps with my overall health in general. And I STRONGLY recommend you do it before in vitro, and then keep doing it. Acupuncture is great at helping your body deal with the stresses of major invasive procedures, and in healing. IVF is so traumatic and so stressful that you want to give your body every chance you have. There are also many people who swear that acupuncture helped with fertility. It certainly is a very sensible route to follow. I haven't done naturopathic medicine otherwise, since they aren't licensed in my state. But I really do recommend the acupuncture.
