# of eggs

I had a baseline untrasound done today (3rd day in my cycle) in preparation for in vitro (I have been diagnosed with endometriosis). My doc said there were 4 small eggs detected in my ovaries (2 in each ovary). My questions are, 1. How many eggs are usually produced by a healthy woman (early 30's and without drugs such as clomid)? I thought it was just 1 a month? 2. Is there a difference between "small eggs" and "eggs"?? 3. Does ovulation necessarily imply egg/s will be produced? Thanks,

K
