It is not a good idea to douche at all at any time unless a dr tells you to do so. The reason for not douching except when a dr tells you to is b/c one, the vagina is self cleaning on the inside, and two, by douching you put yourself more at risk for infection such as yeast.

Also, when I used to get a smell from my periods (it is normal to have the blood smell some) I would just wash with soap and water.

Even though I don't have a period now I still wash with soap and water. To be exact I use Physoderm for washing and it doesn't hurt my genital area at all.

Also, if you are still having a smell in spite of doing this you need to be evaluated by a gyn to see if something else is going on that shouldn't be going on.
