Kristy and Marie: Hi Ladies...I think I may have been unclear and I apologize. I DO agree that the complaintant sounds like she could be cooking up a scam. I have been reading "The Endometriosis Source Book" (Mary Lou Ballweg) which if you have read it you will know has a plethora of useful research and testimonials. It has heigtened my awareness of the debilitating effect this disease has on many women. I was more speaking from an everywoman (with endo) perspective by noting the power of compassion. I think most of us here know what it is like not to be taken seriously because we don't seem "sick". My comments about death by complications were not in respect to the complaintant at all, just a general comment on what I had read on endo and mortality. As a researcher myself, it is essential habit to always remember that what we believe to be true today could be falsified tomorrow- which is why I said nothing would surprise me. Research on endo still has a long way to go and like most diseases, there are great variations observed. Anyway, the information that I have read is available from multiple sources, internet, books, etc. I didn't mean to suggest that I had read that people in fact suffer from "terminal endo", but instead that people who have endo are more likely to suffer acute situations like ectopic pregnancies which does still end in death for some women. While the cause of death may be ectopic pregnancy, the woman may have conceieved normally if not for endo. Similarly, peritonitis which I have read can result from surgery to remove endo from the bowels is also life threatening. Again the cause of death being peritonitis BUT if not for endo...you get the idea. You can read about endo and the potentially life threatening conditions of ectopic pregnancy, bowel and ureter obstruction, peritonitis etc. in the Endometriosis Source Book, or do a search on the web. In addition this book and numerous others as well as web articles can give you info on the risks of early hysterectomy and oophorectomy and the endo on the lungs, and brain. I hope your friend with the cysts improves (that sounds awful) and Marie good luck with your friend...what a difficult position for you to be in. Have a terrific day ladies! Amanda
