Re: EndoFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed May 29 08:15:13 2002
I just started to take the birth control pill continously....has been 4 months since I stopped for a period. My doctor told me that I can take it continously for years if I like with no known risk. Aparantly a period on the pill is induced only by the drop in hormone anyway and it is therefore artificial, serving a psychological purpose. I understand your concern though because it just seems weird. There is a book called "Is Menstruation Obselete" which I believe discusses why women do not need to have periods. I have not been able to obtain it in Canada. Perhaps you will have some luck. When in doubt I always remember a quote from Sue Johannesans Sunday Night Sex Show where someone asked this same question and Sue replied "it is true...women do not turn into pumpkins if we don't mentruate." The side effects of the pill are so mild compared to other treatments for endo and if it works then stick with it! Amanda
