Re: progesterone creamFrom: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue May 28 18:01:19 2002
Hi Lorie, I am using a 10% cream made at a pharmacy that specializes in Women's issues. My cycles are screwy because I am perimenopausal. I have also had a complete hyst with both ovaries removed, but they didn't get all of the last one out, so I have ovarian remnant syndrome. I have tried continous bcps and prometrium and had to quit because of the side effects. I didn't want to do Lupron either. If you search Medline, you will find there are not many journal articles backing up the use of progesterone cream. Many will say it is not absorbed much, if at all and what is absorbed is unreliable. Some people swear by Dr. Lee's research, although I don't myself. I have been using the cream since November. It seems to have helped to decrease my PMS symptoms. I also believe it has helped a couple times to increase my luteal phase, but not all the time. (I have cyclical endo pain and pain during ovulation - that is how I know when I have a cycle and ovulate) I have not noticed any change in the severity of my endo pain. That is probably because I am not regularly ovulating anymore and I am having more anovulatory cycles, which can cause increased bleeding. All I can suggest is try it and see how it works for you. It might help you in some ways. Best wishes, D.N.
