cervical endometriosis

Hello everyone, My name is Natalie and I am new to this mailing list. I am looking for any stories/opinions from any of you who have a similar situation to mine. I just found out today that I have endometrial tissue on the surface of my cervix (inside the vaginal canal). At first, the doctor thought it was an ectropion (migration of cervical lining cells to the outside of the cervix). You could see redness in the center of the cervix. She did a "pinch" biopsy on the area and found some endometrial tissue. She was surprised because I have few of the typical symptoms for endo. I have been having significant bleeding after intercourse for about the past 2 years or so. I occasionally have a little discomfort during sex, but not really pain. I have no pain in any other areas during periods. Also, I don't have heavy bleeding or exceedingly painful periods. What she wants to do is a LEEP procedure on the area. She considered cryotherapy, but decided to suggest LEEP so we could get a better tissue sample and rule out some rare form of endometriod cancer (I think that was it). I asked if we should do a laparoscopy to see if there are growths in other areas, and she is leaving that up to me. In a way, I think it would be a good idea since I will already be under general for the LEEP. But, I have never had any surgeries at all and I am kind of scared. Do you think I should get the laparoscopy? Also, let me say that I am a skeptic when it comes to doctors. No offense to anyone. All of the gyn's I have ever gone to (which has been quite a few trying to get one who can figure out why I am bleeding so much and not just dismiss it as "normal") have been really gung ho about getting women on the pill. Now that I have been diagnosed with endo, she wants me to go on the pill even more. I am not sure if I want to or not. I was on the pill for about 4 years during college (I'm 24). I started having this bleeding problem shortly after I stopped taking them. I know doctors will tell you that the pill doesn't cause problems like this, but I am a little suspicious. Can they really know that for sure? I also want to have children at some point, so I am also worried about this issue as it relates to these procedures, etc. What do you think about trying the LEEP, first. Then, if there is a recurrence, I could try going on the pill. I was also thinking of waiting on the laparoscopy until I have any symptoms of pelvic growths. Any thoughts on this strategy? Do you see any benefits to having the laparoscopy now? Thanks for any suggestions, sharing of information, etc. Natalie
