Brandy,

Yes, you will have to meet the deductible. Unfortunately.

Do you know how much you have met of it this year. This would include any hospital visits or any money that has come out of your pocket. That is what determines how much of your deductible that you have met.

And what period does the year run from. Does the year start fresh on Jan. 1 or does it run from Sept. 2001 to Sept. 2002 or any combo like that.

The doctors office can not and should not determine how much you owe them until they have spoken with the insurance company in regards to the deductible.

My advice would be to gather your receipts for the beginning of the fiscal year (2001-2002) or however it may run for your insurance. Each insurance is different.

I would also advise you to call your insurance company and find out what exactly you need to do to let them know that you have met the deductible. Some insurance companies will have you send in copies of receipts (this can include Rx's, Co-Pays, ER visits, out-patient procedures (X-rays, blood draws, CT Scans, Ultrasound, MRI's and etc).) Although keep in mind that some insurance companies won't include co-pays as meeting the deductible.

I have been on Great West, an insurance company out of Minnesota, and I am on Aetna now, they all included co-pays towards my deductible. Especially the $50 Co-pay for the ER..UGH. I was just venting on that one...lol

The second question would be to be to ask them what does the doctor's office need to do for authorization for the surgery. Most Health Insurance Companies REQUEST pre-auth for any type of surgery whether it is out-patient or in-patient.

The third question would be how much would you actually owe the doctor's office. The insurance company can determine that.

I would pose these questions to your insurance company, NOT the doctor's office. Doctor's office can be very sneaky with things like that.

If you need anymore help, please feel free to e-mail me on here or privately! I am not familiar with your insurance company, but I can give you the information that accompanies most insurance companies.

Hope this helps!

Angel Hugs, Wanda
