Re: Premarin Safe Now?

Hi Pam,

I have had everything removed, but was left (unintentionally) with an ovarian remnant. That remnant has functioned much like a regular ovary. I am your age and I am having very strong perimenopausal symptoms. I still have endo too that is painful when I cycle.

If you are having any cyclical pain, I would seriously reconsider using Premarin. I am suprised that your doc would give you Premarin if you still have a functioning ovary. Have you had your FSH and estradiol levels checked? Wait for a while after your surgery because your ovary might shut down temporary after the lap. Your doc says he didn't find endo, but endo can come in a variety of colors including clear and it can hide in places that the doc might not have seen. I have read endo specialists say, if there is endo, the only way to get rid of it is to dissect down to normal tissue. If they only did a laparoscopy, I doubt they dissected down to normal tissue in all areas.

If I were you, since it has only been a week since your lap, wait a while (at least several months) to see if your pain really subsides. It is certainly possible that all the pain you have had is adhesion related, but it would be prudent to wait since you have had endo in the past. Have your FSH and estradiol levels checked. If you are painfree, how about trying soy or remifem instead of going on Premarin. With one ovary, you are still putting out estrogen. You might want to consider using progesterone cream too, especially if endo is still possibly an issue. Get a prescription from your doc. I have a RX and have the cream (made from micronized progesterone from yams) made up at a pharmacy that deals in women's issues. The cream that is available over the counter is not reliable in the amount of progesterone that is supplied. Talk to your doc.

I hope this helps. Best wishes, D.N.
