So glad to hear you are feeling okay. Don't worry about the bowel movements, there won't be much in there right now because you probably haven't had much solid food for a few days. The soups are good, you can eat the thicker ones like Chunky Soups with a bit of meat and veggies in them and gradually build up the solid foods. If you are really concerned about it try a little prune juice at breakfast rather than laxatives and drink lots of water, at least 8 glasses a day. I am surprised that your doctor didn't give you any instructions to take home about the incision. A bath is out of the question for awhile. You can probably change the dressing any time now and when you do just take a fresh piece of sterilized gauze pad soaked in warm water and gently bathe *around* the incision for now (don't try to clean the stitches yet) then pat dry with another piece of gauze and put on a new dressing. I wouldn't be putting any ointments on it. It should heal up okay by itself. You can leave the dressing on while you shower if you think the water hitting the bare skin will bother you, then change the dressing afterwards. Sounds like the OR crew kind of got carried away with the iodine. Try sitting on the side of the tub run the water and wash off your legs that way, it's still a bit of bending but not as much as if you were doing it from a standing position like shower or sink. That stuff needs to be rubbed off so you would still need to bend down in the shower, so try the bath idea - but don't give in to temptation and go sit in it, LOL. :-)

Take care, Susan
