19 and have scheduled laparotomy -- please help!

Hi, I'm 19 and have experienced pain with ovulation and bad period pain for about a year and a half. I saw my doctor and had an ultrasound done which showed a 6cm cyst on my left ovary and 4-5cm one on my right ovary. Both doctor and gynaecologist suspect that they are endometriomas (large enough to be felt on a pelvic exam) and recommended a laparotomy. My doctor said I'd spend about 4 days in hospital (without complications) and would need to rest completely for about three weeks. However other women (at alt.support.endometriosis, in particular) have suggested that I seek a second opinion and see if the laparotomy is necessary. I'm hesitant to do this, as my doctor has done such surgery before (said that she sees teenage girls with these cysts "all the time") and that she isn't 100% positive whether they are endometriomas or not as only surgery can show this for sure. Naturally I want it to be confirmed that I don't have anything worse, as soon as possible.

I saw the ultrasound scan myself and these cysts look HUGE. Does a laparotomy sound like the correct course for diagnosis and treatment? My gynaecologist said several times that this seems to be a fairly severe case of endo (if that's what it is) and during the surgery she'll try to salvage as much ovarian tissue as possible. I've booked the surgery for March 25.

Many thanks and love.
