BCP's and endo ovarian cysts

I can't tell you how wonderful to find a forum with so many women! So many positive thoughts going out to all of you. I was diagnosed with via lap 10 years ago and had laser surgery to remove it.

This is an alert about BCP's and also a plea for advice...

I went on ortho cyclen about 8 months ago and within one week was in severe pain on my right side about 3 hours after I took the pill. The pain lasted for about 7 hours and was often unbearable. It also made my bm's quite painful and difficult. I, of course, checked with my doctors and contacted everyone I knew asking them if they had ever heard of such a thing or had had similar side effects. I even contacted the Pill manufacturer. My doctors said it was just my body adjusting and that it would take five months to "even out"... I started taking my pill at midnight hoping I would sleep through it, but even that didn't help and I would wake up and find myself curled in a ball from the pain. After five months of this insanity I told my gyno that I was going off the pill I didn't care what she said. I was due for my annual at the same visit and during it she felt an abnormality on my uterus and decided to send me for an ultrasound. They found an endometrial cyst larger than a baseball on my right ovary. I have since found out that the endometrial lining grows with estrogen and that the pill I was on released a steady dose of estrogen everyday. I am sure that I had a smaller manageable cyst for a long time, but that the hormones of the pill kicked it into overdrive and made it grow as big as it has. PLEASE BE CAREFUL, I hope nobody has to go through what I am going through. I would also be very interested in hearing if anyone else has had a similar experience (my direct email is amybnyc@hotmail.com)

In terms of advice... I live in NYC and would really like to find an experienced female doctor who also respects and even incorporates alternative medicines and perspectives into her healing (acupuncture, Reiki, nutrition, etc) If anyone knows of such a person... also - if anyone has had any luck with anything other than surgery of hormones PLEASE let me know.

Love goes out to all of you, Amy
