ConfusedFrom: Jenna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Feb 19 12:57:55 2002
Hello everyone... You may remember me from many of my previous posts. I have another question: How common is it for a woman with endo to have a flare-up of pain in the middle of her cycle, like right around ovulation - especially if, as in my case, I have never had any bad flare-up of pain right around the time of my period? Here's why I ask: I have not had a diagnostic laparoscopy yet but I've been told by 3 separate ob/gyns - including Women's Surgery Group's Dr. Alan Johns of Fort Worth, Texas - that there is a fairly decent possibility that I have endo. One doctor thought she found a dermoid cyst on my left ovary during an ultrasound, which might possibly explain the discomfort I've had in the area of my left ovary for 2 months now. However, Dr. Johns today said he found nothing wrong with either of my ovaries or my uterus during his ultrasound. As with all the other doctors, Dr. Johns' examination was very uncomfortable (though not excruciating), however, he said he could feel no nodules. The only time I have ever felt excruciating pain was back in January. That pain wasn't even right around my period...it was actually in the middle of my cycle. Since then I have felt occasional discomfort but never the agony I felt before. So now I have to decide whether or not to have the laparoscopy and I am confused. I'd hate to be absent from work for a week only to be told it's not really endo. At the same time I'd hate to risk having a bad flare up again during the months of April and May when it's really busy here at work. I'd kind of just like to know whether it's endo or not. But before I decide to have surgery, I want to know if it is possible for a woman with endo to have a flare up in the middle of her cycle but not around her period, as was the case with me. Thanks again.
