IBS is very common in women with endo...a lot of women are dx'd with it before they ever get an endo dx. Also, a lot of women who are dx'd with IBS and endo, don't actually have IBS. This is why the dietary changes for IBS don't always work. Constipation and diarrhea are both common symptoms of endo. My Dr says it is because the prostaglandins that are produced by the body to make the uterus contract during your period also effect the bowels, because they are also a smooth muscle. Unfortunately, women with endo tend to produce more prostaglandins (no one knows why, theory is the endo tissue itself produces it), this is why even without a uterus, women can still produce these hormones. Every cycle I have constipation for a few days and then diarrhea when I would have had my period.
