Re: Questions about taking birth control continuouslyFrom: Christy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Dec 21 16:45:29 2001
Hi Natalie :o) I just underwent my 16th procedure in the last 12 years for endo. My doctor, who is an endo. expert (Dr. Lyons - Atlanta) also started me on continuous birth control pills. He explained to me that the uterus will get a rest during the time the lining is not thickening monthly. Instead of it thickening and sloughing off in the form of a period, it rests, thins out, and pain is also lessened. The estrogen is what provides a stable level of hormones, as opposed to varying-level pills or no pill at all. The pill is supposed to temporarily treat endo by not letting it get any worse. Also, our uterus is able to relax and literally, take some time off from its duties and some endo can shrink. It is also my understanding that most abnormal growth on the ovaries is either endo, cysts, or adhesions. Hope this helps :o) ~~~~Christy :o)
