2nd opinion on surgery & lupron therapy for large fibroid

Findings:

Large (7.7 x 7.4 x 7.0 cm) exophytic heterogeneous uterine mass likely representing a uterine firbroid extending anteriorly from the body and fundal portion of the uterus. Otherwise unremarkable pelvic ultrasound.

I am 29 years old, have not yet had a child but might have one in a few years. I have been taking otho-tricycline for approx. 2 years. My ob/gyn has suggested that I begin my next bcp cycle with new pills which contain the lowest possible dosage of estrogen. She has prescribed lupron therapy to begin in March. In June I would have surgery to remove the fibroid. She does not recommend laposcropy (the tube type of removal) because of possible uterine rupture. My concerns are that I have heard that the lupron therapy has horrible side effects (do your ovaries return to normal function following the therapy?) adn that the therapy would put me out of sorts for so long (my ob/gyn said somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8 weeks.) Should I get a second opinion, or is she on the right track?

Thank you,

Al
