Vaginal endometriosis and pain/bleedingFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Dec 14 04:27:36 2001
I had a LEEP procedure 2 years ago. After three months I began to experience severe pain in the region of the cervix downwards accompanied by bleeding, which appeared mid-cycle and went on for 3 to 4 days. This continued each month, the pain becoming more severe and widespread until finally grade 4 endometriosis was diagnosed after a year, by laparoscopy. Only mild inflammation was found when the vaginal wall was examined (where I thought most of the pain was coming from). I am in the UK where few experts on endometriosis exist but I was lucky enough to have surgery to remove endo deposits in the pelvic region and also had a hyst (ovaries were preserved) a few months ago. By now the endo had spread through the full thickness of the vaginal wall, affecting at least 50%. The area appeared like ripples in sand and was peppered with small blood filled cysts. Thankfully, no malignancy was present. I was told that an option would be to have further surgery sometime next year, however I fear this is unlikely now due to nationwide funding problems. Though the surgery was largely successful, this diseased area remains and is extremely painful each month. The bleeding which accompanies it continues. What treatment can women in my position hope for and how long should symptoms be tolerated before pressing for treatment?
