Re: heavy bleeding and clotsFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netTue Dec 11 14:19:55 2001
I had also had all the huge clots, heavy bleeding(gushing), severe pain and anemia about 4 years ago. I was going to military dr's, so hardly ever get to see the same doc twice. I had a female ob/gyn that refused to do CA-125, wouldn't do a lap, and after having had me on 3 months hormone therapy, wanted to put me on it permanently, even though I was bleeding even worse than before, and she chalked it up to it all being in my mind. My husband was upset that she was just wanting to keep me on pills, instead of finding the reason behind the pain. He asked for me to see another dr., who did a lap, but only noticed adhesions attached from ovary to bowels. I was still in alot of pain and having all the problems with my menstrual cycles. I noticed an area that had something that looked like water droplets and asked my new pcp if it could've been clear endometriosis...he didn't even look at the photo from surgery and said that I must've gotten that from online and that I should quit researching stuff on there. I told him that it was actually my mother in law, who's one of the head nurses in Tampa that had suggested it. A few months ago, I was seen by a interim dr. who decided to get a pelvic CT Scan done (had ultrasounds, which never showed anything abnormal...though last abdominal one had been painful) I was called within an hour of getting home from CT Scan by the interim dr., saying that my uterus was enlarged and he was setting an appt up for me to see ob/gyn. I got a call same day from Ob/gyn saying they would see me the next day. I was really lucky to get an excellent & concerned ob/gyn this time. She told me upfront that the CT report had shown an enlarged uterus, suspicious for malignancy, but that she wasn't sure because she hadn't been able to take a look yet at the scans. After examining me, she said the uterus was definitely enlarged, did uterine biopsy(benign!) and set me up for a total abdominal hysterectomy, due to what she felt was adenomyosis. During the surgery, she confirmed several pockets of adeno, and also found endo on some diverticulae that I had on bowels. She removed what she could but had to leave some, because she didn't want to risk damaging the colon. I feel SO much better since the surgery...still have an occasional pain, but I would definitely opt for the hysterectomy again, if I had to choose. (by the way...found out that first ob/gyn that didn't want to do the tests had worked shortly at a medical center I came to work at later...only her stay was very short lived and she was not well liked by patients, drs or upper management...what a surprise! <g>) > >At Sat, 8 Dec 2001, karen wrote: >> >>Hello all, >> >>Have a question.
