Re: Just diagnosedFrom: rebecca (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Oct 30 07:47:53 2001
Hi, not sure if this will help you as I'm from england so can only tell you the list prices for treatments in this country. I must stress that you really ought to choose you medication by what you are happy with after reading about each one, as they all have side-effects, and don't suit everyone. I took Provera tablets (medoxyprogesterone acetate), which are cheaper, (£24 fror 30 days supply compared to £125 for each injection of leuprorelin acetate), you take them for 90 days. I suffered from mild depression and mood swings for the first month, and quite a lot of breakthrough bleeding, but was happy to put up with this as I had no pain. I have since been fitted with a Mirena coil (progesterone releasing). The other point is that the provera tablets (and most of the other hormonal treatments)are not a contraceptive, if this is an issue for you. There is a provera injection which is a contraceptive, and would probably be more effective than the pill.It gives you a lower dose than the tablets so you should have less side effects but I'm not sure how effective it is in endo. You best bet is to search the postings on this board and read other peoples experiences. (Just don't be put off too much as people tend to post more when something isn't working than when it is successful!) Hope this helped sorry its so long becky
