Re: Upsetting TimeFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Oct 27 14:20:43 2001
Samantha, Hon, I'm so sorry about what your Nan said. I know from experience. I've been arguing with my mom for the past 2 years about getting a hysterectomy. She is so convinced that it would heal everything, but I know better. I've tried to explain it to her, but she just doesn't want to believe it. She wants to believe that a hysterectomy is a cure, she doesn't want to admit that her baby has an incurable disease. I thought this was kind of weird too. My grandma come down last night (haven't seen her in 4 years) and she asked me about what I had. I told her and she of course related it to my aunt who had endo and had a hysterectomy over 20 years ago. She started to start pushing me to get one, but my mom stopped her before we got into an arguement. Actually freaked me out lol. I just wanted to write and tell you to try not to let them get to you. I think the main concern with family members is that they want there to be a cure for us, and they don't understand how endo effects us. I'm sure that you Nan never meant to hurt you, she was just thinking that she was helping. The best thing I can tell you to do is either explain to them why you don't want a hysterectomy and that it is your body and your decision so they can accept it or butt out lol. I'm 23 and I know that I'm not ready for one. I'm pretty convinced it would do more harm than good. I hope that your family will be more considerate and that you can handle it without getting upset over it. I know, a lot easier said than done, but there's always wishful thinking :). Take care hon. If you need anything, feel free to email me at any time. Love and Prayers, Amanda
