Re: A Few More Questions About Endo (to Theresa)

Hi Theresa,

Even though your Dr means well in not putting you through more tests, I don't think that is suitable for you if you're so obviously not happy about your situation. I have spent nearly three years pushing for resolution of my problems, with one gyn telling me I musn't really love my partner if intercourse hurt, even though I was in tears from his internal exam! The only way to really identify Endo is visually by laproscopy, although they think I have a rare form that is hard to see because it can't be distinguished from the colour of the ligaments. A lap isn't so bad as major surgery and can be worth it for either confirming or excluding endo. I had two ultrasounds that showed a small bit on my ovary, but my pain was from other problems only picked up by my gyn who is an experienced specialist in pelvic and vulvar pain.

I have had 6 procedures in total to try and fix my pain, some of which was endo, some due to vulvodynia. The latter is now treated, and when I went and saw my gyn recently to say I still had the pain, I told him that I felt silly for pushing so hard to fix things when I can still function normally and don't have any obvious fertility problems (I'm 25 & engaged but haven't tried for children yet) and that I might be seen as trying to get things perfect. He said that things in my body don't have to be perfect, but that it's okay to want to feel better (which I don't yet, as none of the treatments have fixed the pain I still have, which is the worst one). You should not let anyone trivialise your problems, and you shouldn't have to live with less than satisfactory health just because it isn't always too bad.

I can see we probably have a similar story, as I always thought things in my body were normal and as my mum had Endo, she thought so too. If you want, email me privately and I will tell you more about my story.

Talk to you again soon, Leanne
