Re: A Few More Questions About Endo (long)From: Leanne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Oct 21 22:51:21 2001
Hi Theresa, IF you are having pain that seems to relate to your cycle, it probably is related to something in your reproductive system, although you would need further investigation to verify if it is endo. I'm having a laparotomy next week to remove what they think is endo buried within the ligaments that hold my uterus in place. It's been a long journey to establish this, as they couldn't see it with a laparoscope, but my DR can replicate my pain from inside, and it was worse just before my period than when he examined mid-cycle. Most of my pain is during intercourse and/or after orgasm, although every few months I wake up at night with similar pains, like as if I'm constipated but sort of deeper, and I know my movements are okay. On a few occasions I've had the same pain when I've just been at work or something, and I sometimes get twinges on and off, more when I'm stressed. I also get quite bad period pain in my lower back and across the front of my pelvis (more on my left) as well as diarreah (sp) but it's only that bad when I'm not on the pill (so I've only been off the pill a few times since starting it at 16!!). I guess the what I'm trying to say is that the pain seems to be able to radiate to other areas, and not everyone has the sort of debilitating, everyday pain with endo. But my Aunt lost an ovary to Endo and the only reason they found out was because she had an ectopic pregnancy, otherwise no pain. So don't feel that it isn't worth investigating. I feel so lucky compared to most women here, but when I do get my pain it is very real, and affects my life in terms of relationships. So what have other Endo problems have you had? Have you seen a Dr about this? When it is so spread out, it may be worth you keeping a short diary so you and your DR can see any patterns, especially if it isn't everyday pain. Feel free to email me directly if you want to talk, and let us know how things work out.
