need advice on endometriosis treatmentFrom: Ann (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Oct 16 13:40:50 2001
Hi. I'm new to this board and would love some advice. I just returned from my Dr. I have an endometioma 4X5cm. ( I had one removed on my other ovary four years ago) My Dr. says that I should consider having a total hysterectomy. I am 38 and don't really have much pain. He feels that since maintaining fertility is not an issue (I've never been pregnat -probably due to undected endo when I was younger and also have a 7cm fibroid) that this is the best option. The only one that will cure me. I don't feel comfortable having my ovaries removed. I told him this and he has put me on birth control pills that I will take without coming off them. I have to see him again in 6 weeks. He said that he could remove my cyst laporoscoply, but it will only come back and each time you have this procedure you run the chance of having problems. I know of someone who has had a laparoscopy repeated 3 or 4 times. While I don't relish the thought of having it done so frequently, couldn't I just have the cyst removed and continue on the pill? After all, the cyst that was removed 4 years ago hasn't grown back. My Dr. felt strongly that eventually I will have to have a total hysterectomy and have hormone replacement therapy. I'd love to hear from others who "have been there." Anyone know of a Dr. who specializes in treating endometriosis in New York?
