Re: informal poll: endo after hysterectomy

Hi Roo,

My answers to your questions are as follows:

1. Yes & No- I had symptomatic fibroids. Endo was suspected because of my symptoms and my sister had it. Endo was found during the hyst. My left ovary and uterus were adhered to my sigmoid colon.

2. The left ovary was removed at that time. The right was not affected; however, a year and a half later, the right one had to come out because of endometriomas.

3. Unfortunately my pain and cycles continue. I have Ovarian Remnant syndrome. The remnant is on the right side. My doc had a very difficult time getting all the ovary out because of adhesions and the endo. My last surgery was 2/97.

4. My doctor is a very caring person. She works with me. I have tried continous BCPs and prometrium. Had to quit both because of affects on my moods and increase in migraine headaches. There is not much that can be done. I don't want to do Lupron because that would only at best be a temporary fix and there are all the side effects. I don't want surgery again if I can at all avoid it. I am perimenopausal, but my doc doesn't think that menopause is going to be anytime soon. I am concerned about my symptoms increasing.

I feel frustrated that more people don't understand about ORS. Most people, including other doctors have never heard of ORS. I wonder if people believe me sometimes. The remnant has been documented via ultrasound and blood tests. I still have mittelschmertz during ovulation (the pain has actually become worse lately.) When I have a "period" my permanently enlarged lymph node (on the left side) becomes extremely tender and painful for days. It also feels like I am having a period-the heaviness and cramps (not as bad as when I had a uterus.)

I hope these answers are helpful.

Best wishes, D.N.
