Re: painful intercourse after hysterectomyFrom: Lauren (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Sep 27 07:39:56 2001
Hi, You do not say how soon/long post op you are. After a hyst it can take months th heal up propely, especially if you had your cervix removed too. If you had your ovaries removed, there will be healing pain there too. You need to give your body time to heal. Also, your anatomy is slightly different now, so you may need to experiment with different possitions, and different depths of penetration.(It's like being a teenager again LOL.) Lubrication could also be a source of pain, if you are dry, try an over the counter preparation, if this does not work, perhaps your doctor could prescribe some prosesterone cream, this sometimes does the trick. Tension can also be a potential source of pain, you expect it to hurt, and tense up, so it does hurt.Try relaxing in a hot bath with a small glass of red wine befrore you have sex, or get your partner to give you a back rub or a foot rub, make it part of your foreplay, that can help too. I am surprised that you were not counselled about these things before your hyst. I am going to have a hyst in the future, and my doc has made me aware of all of this, and given me a whole list of recomended reading. He also wants m,e to go and see a therapist for a while prior to surgery, just to be sure that I will be able to handle it all emotionally and physically. I hope this helps a little. Please feel free to e-mail me if you want to chat laurenr@lantic.net. (((HUGS))) LAUREN
