Endo and Bone loss InformationFrom: AJ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Sep 11 11:16:39 2001
I have read two posts about women not having periods for 2 and 3 years. I just wanted to encourage you both to make sure that you are getting enough calcium and vitamin D to discourage bone loss. This is something that a lot of drs fail to mention to us and I want to beat the ones that don't lol. I haven't had a period in a little over a year. I had a bone density test done in late June and it showed that I have a Moderate risk of developing osteoporosis. I'm 22 years old, so this was a shock to me. If you are on any kind of ovulation suppression or treatment for endo, talk to your dr about the effects of the meds on bone loss. I didn't know that Depo-Provera could cause bone loss until I got the results back from my scan. Since I had already had my first Lupron 3 month shot, I was started on Fosamex 35mg to help prevent against further bone loss and hopefully help rebuild the bone density that I have lost. If you do not get enough calcium and vitamin D in your diets, please take supplements to ensure that you are getting enough. Calcium (1200-1500) and vitamin D(400-800). I'm currently required to take 1800 of calcium a day and 800 of vitamin D. Please take precautions to ensure that you don't end up with bone loss. Take Care and God Bless, AJ
