Re: Doctor prescribes pregnancy after Lap.From: AJ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Sep 11 10:57:29 2001
Reagan, It seems that this is almost always the "prescription" drs give us after we have a lap that diagnoses endo. I know that after my lap my dr told my bf and mom that I needed to get pregnant NOW (even though I had other medical problems and was told by my gyn NOT to get preg for 6 more months!). He said that if I didn't get pregnant I needed a hysterectomy. I was 21 at the time and already had a 4 yo son. I do want more children, but I'm not going to have them when I have been in so much pain because I fear that it would only make things worse. Did you dr remove any endo? Did he tell you what stage of endo you had? The way they currently stage endo is based on the chances you have of getting pregnant. I don't know if this is very effective, because I have talked to women with severe endo (stage IV) that became pregnant with no problem. I want to say, don't let your doctor force you into doing anything that you don't want to do. You shouldn't have a child just to keep the endo at bay. You should be ready to have a child and not be forced into it by your dr. You said that your dr said that you needed to go to a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) if you didn't conceive after three months. I would suggest that if it's possible to go to a RE for treatment of your endo, not to try to get pregnant now (unless you really want to have a child now). RE's are usually the best suited physicians to go to for endo, they have more experience dealing with it than our reg drs and gyns. As for the DepoLupron, I was on it for 10 months having one shot every month. I had a very light period the first month and nothing after that (which was the point of the shot). For about 2 weeks I had virtually no pain, after that I had more pain. I thought the shots weren't helping, but after I got off of them, I was in extreme pain. After that I knew that although I was still in pain while on the shots, provera had decreased the amount of pain. As for side effects with Provera, hotflashes (which turned to chills after a few months), mood-swings, severe depression (took anti-depressants that really helped), that's all I can remember right now from it. I never experienced breakthrough bleeding or spotting or anything. Every woman reacts differently to the meds though. Also, if you take provera, or any ovulation suppressive therapy, please make sure that you have enough calcium (1200-1500mg a day) and vitamin D (400-800). I had a three month shot of Lupron on the 13th of June and the only side effects that I have experienced are increase in joint pain and sometimes extreme irratability. The Lupron hasn't had many side effects on me (because as my dr stated) my body was used to the provera and lupron wouldn't be as bad on me. (please research any possible treatment before you start it) Anyway, I guess I've written my novel for the day lol. I hope that I have helped you in some way. If you need anything else, feel free to write me privately at any time. Take Care and God Bless, AJ
