Re: Newbie,1st Lap and Depo-ProveraFrom: AJ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Sep 8 19:38:18 2001
Samantha, Hiya! I'm sorry that you have to go through all of this, it is more than anyone should have to go through. As for the Depo-Provera, I was on it for 10 months after my diagnostic lap. I received one shot every month. The first month I had a very light period with very little pain. For about 2 weeks it really helped my pain, after that I began to have other health probs and thought that it was no longer helping. (after I got off of it, I realized how much it HAD helped the pain, I was in horrible pain after I stopped taking it) Meds act differently with every woman. As for my symptoms, I had severe depression from the provera (anti-depressants really helped), hot flashes that would make me go run out in the snow lol. I had no periods after the first month. I've had some memory loss (but I believe partly bc of pain meds). That's all the symptoms I can think of now. I know that I could always tell when it was time for the next shot bc I would start to feel an increase in pain. Also, right after I would get the shot I would get this strange taste in my mouth and feel a little sick to my stomach. It wasn't anything bad. After a few months of hot flashes, I started getting chills instead. As for the lap, it depends on the surgeon I believe. My first lap was really painful right after. It's difficult to rise and sit and you are pretty sore. The next day is a lot better. I was feeling a lot better in a few days time. It was amazing about how fast you recover from this. The second lap I had I was fine on the second day. A few tips for when you get your lap, bring a soft pillow with you to the hospital. On the ride home, put the pillow between your belly and the seatbelt. I did this for my 2nd one and couldn't believe how much it helped, especially with the bumps. Also, a heating pad helped with the soreness. Most of all, remember to take it easy and don't try to do too much. It takes time to heal, so don't push yourself to do anything that you are not comfortable with. I hope that you get all the help that you need, and if you need anything else, just holler. Take Care and God Bless, AJ
