(((LORI)))From: Lauren (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Aug 10 03:20:27 2001
Hi, I have had endo for about 14 years, diagnosed 9 years ago.I am 30 and I have three children,a daughter of 13 (who also has epilepsy, but thank the good Lord no retardation) a daughter of 9 and a son of 23months that I am still breastfeeding. I am happily married to a very supportive man who understands endo. What I feel you need to do is look at your life as a whole and decide what suits YOU. Do some research and ask yourself some questions. I did this and have decided on NO TREATMENT for the moment, my doctor has given me the same options as you have. Hormones do not agree with me, I have tried various ones over the years, and each time I have had terrible side effects, so that's OUT. I feel I am too young for a hyst, it would be a removal of uterus, tubes and right ovary, leaving cervix and left ovary. I am not willing to put my body through all those changes and risk another set of symptoms that I am unfamiliar with and do not know how to cope with. I also at present do not have the time to lie in bed for weeks and then still take it very easy for months to recover from such major surgery. We have recently started our own business (about a year ago) and I simply can not afford to be away for any time at all, we are still getting ourselves on our feet financially. Also I am still breastfeeding and can not leave my baby with anyone for too long, and my mom stays too far away to help, as she also runs her own business. So, you see, there are many things that you need to take into consideration, things that your doctor does not even know about. You need to make a choice that is right for you, your kids and your husband.I feel very strongly that the doctors do not treat you as a whole person, and do not take a look at the bigger picture. I am now, with my doctors help on various pain medications that help me cope with the pain, I also use heat for the pain ( heating pad, hot water bottles.) I also try to keep healthy, walk a little on the days that I do not have too much pain, and eat a healthy diet, no caffiene, only free range chickens and eggs, mainly organicaly grown veggies, organic beef(once or twice a week only) No other red meat, no soya products (except a little soy sauce when I eat chinese.) very little dairy(only a drop of milk in tea occaisionally) I feel that a healthy body helps you to cope even if it does not directly influence the disease. It is not a limiting diet at all, we eat very well, and a huge variety, last night we had chinese food, tonight I am entertaining and I am cooking mexican. It is really what is right for you, and nobody has the right to make that decision for you. I hope this has helped you. ((((ANGEL HUGS)))) LAUREN
