Elaine and EmilyFrom: Marcia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jul 17 08:44:04 2001
Hi Elaine and Emily: I wish you both the best of angel wishes on Friday, for your double espresso hysts!! I had a laparotomy for a partial hyst 3 months ago, and the best advice I can give is to be sure you have someone at home to help you, especially the very first week. My doc told me not to lift anything for the entire 6 weeks I was off, as lifting will cause adhesions and scarring. That includes lifting and holding your children, if you have any...absolute NO lifting. No strenuous exercise, either, until after 6 weeks. You can begin walking after the first few days, lengthening the amount of time you walk. Also, my small pillow was my best friend for the first couple of weeks. To get out of bed, I would hold it against my tummy, so not to strain my abdominal muscles (not to mention for the ride home from the hospital). Make sure you have lots of easy to prepare food on hand (frozen foods), as well as juices, tea, jello, etc. I used (and still do every day) an equal mix of aloe vera gel and liquid vitamin E mixed together, and then spread on my bikini incision... the extra I put on my elbows, and boy are they soft now! I will be on both of your shoulders this Friday, and should you feel a fluttering against your cheek, that is my angel wings, giving you strength... ~~Marcia~~
