Any advice?From: Maggie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Jul 15 16:05:47 2001
Hello, I have just recently located this site and hope that some of you may be able to offer some advice. I am 28 yrs. old and was diagnosed with endo and pelvic adhesions 4 1/2 yrs. ago. My doctor performed three laparoscopies and was only able to tell me that I did have endo and adhesions, but was unable to stop my pain after all three surgeries. My husband and I moved to another state immediately following my third lap. I am currently seeing another dr. that has given me hope that someone is knowledgeable about this disease. I was referred to him after experiencing a ruptured ovarian cyst and a lot of pain. This dr. performed a lap to correctly diagnose the endo and a subsequent 3 1/2 hour laparotemy with laser microsurgery to remove the SEVERE endo and pelvic adhesions. I experienced minor improvement following these procedures. Five months later, I was in pain again, so I had another lap. This one showed no significant reason for my pain, so my doctor referred me to a pain mgmt. dr. tht I did not like. I dealt with the constant nagging pelvic pain, monthly episodes of severe cramps and bleeding for two more years and finally realized that my pain was turning me into a person that I did not like. I contacted my dr. and explained that something had to be done. He scheduled me for another lap and I waited to see what he found. Upon waking up, he explained that there were small spots of endo, but the real problem was the return of SEVERE pelvic adhesions. I had another laparotemy performed the following day. Three weeks later, the pain was still there. This was not post-op pain, but a pulling, stabbing pain. My dr. feared that adhesions had returned and performed another lap. The adhesions were there and were removed. Two months later, I am still in pain. I go back to my doctor again tomorrow for another visit. I feel that he is going to refer me to the pain mgmt. dr. again. Another sideline to all of the endo problems is that I developed severe fibrocystic breast disease and underwent a prophylactic mastectomy six months ago. The problems appeared out of nowhere and coincided with a significant increase in my endo symptoms. I am not a dr., but could all of this be related? Every hormone workup has shown no significant problems and my dr. has looked elsewhere. I have become so frustrated that I don't know what else to do. I am seeing a dr. at one of the premiere endo. centers in the south and do not doubt his advice, but I am sick of being in pain. This dr. does not promote hysterectomies, but he has explained that my "clock is ticking" and it will be a race to see what wins, "pregnancy or pain". He seemed very upset when he explained to me that the next surgery I undergo will very likely be to remove parts insted of repair them!! My husband and I do not have any children, so this is even more upsetting. Please let me know if anyone out there has advice or has been in the same situation.
