Ana and Tracy...Dietary changes, etc.From: Marcia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Jun 29 12:01:35 2001
Hi ladies: Pep has posted quite a bit about this subject, and I will show below her last post on June 13, I think, so you can see the links she has provided: http://forums.obgyn.net/endo/ENDO.0106/0370.html Everyone is different, and everyone reacts differently to dietary changes...some swear by it, some find no difference whatsoever...but you need to try it to see if it works for you. While cutting out dairy doesn't help me one bit, dairy and soy products seem to lead to flareups for others, so when they cut them out, it helps them tremendously. What I do swear by, though, is switching entirely to organic fruits and vegetables, as well as antibiotic-free and estrogen-free meats, such as beef and chicken. If you buy your food at a regular supermarket, you don't know what you are getting... added pesticides, antibiotics, and estrogens are being added to you food...which I firmly believe adds to endo...and this means all products that are made with these things too (I know, I am as bad as the next person, when it comes to wanting some chips or a candy bar!). You need to find a health food store near you, and you can go online to http://www.wholefoods.com and check to see if one of their stores is near you, and see what they are all about. And so, again, all of us are different...you need to search out info, and experiment on yourself, to see if any one, or all of the things mentioned above, seem to contribute to flareups of your endo. Also...I read recently that someone's doc told them that when we are overweight (okay, fat), that the added fat on our bodies produce estrogen on its own, and supplies more estrogen than we need...now, that is the first time I have ever heard of this, but it does seem to make sense to me...I know for a fact, that I feel better when I am at a lower weight...right now I am about 10 pounds overweight from my last surgery, and when I can exercise a bit more, the exercise also helps to create natural endorphins, to kill pain in a more natural way. Well, I hope this much information doesn't overwhelm you both...I hope it helps you in seeking answers, as we all do...because the more informed we are, the better decisions we make, in regards to our health. Blessings and painfree wishes to all, ~~Marcia~~
