Hysterectomy

Every woman with endo needs to educate herself on all aspects of it. An excellent source is the Endometriosis Sourcebook, by Mary Lou Ballweg, director of the Endometriosis Association. This book is based on FACTS, not opinions. It is an excellent resource guide for the woman with endo. The only way through this terrible, life-altering disease is education. I would strongly advise every woman with endo to get a copy of this book. Also, look up articles on MEDLINE. They have valid data by doctors studing the disease. You will also find that if a doctor simply does a hysterectomy, and is not skilled enough to make a concerted effort to remove all endo at the time of the hysterectomy, you stand a very high chance of recurrence. Even if you do have a very skilled surgeon, and take hormone replacement, you can still have recurrence, as there may be microscopic pieces of endo that respnd to hormone replacement. Ladies, again, I urge you to take the time to read. The Endo zone is another excellent source of information. Don't go on opinion or heresay, and above all, make sure your doc is skilled at removing endo, not just organs. Sincerely, A Registered Nurse and Endo sufferer
