Wendi, thanks for sharing, and I wish you luck in your search for the cause of your back pain. I sortof know how frustrating this must be for you--please hang in there and try other avenues. I'll give you some history about me that I hope may help you a bit. I have been to other doctors besides my gynoc (a knowledgeable gp, a spine doc, a chiropractor, and a pain management doc) who have all diagnosed me with: 1. si joint dysfunction--where the sacoriliac joints in your pelvic area get out of whack thus causing incorrect mobility of the spine and muscles; 2. piraformus syndrome--this is a large, deep muscle in the buttocks that gets inflamed and can entrap the sciatic nerve that runs down the back of the leg, hence sitting too long is very painful;. 3. i have 3 very slightly bulged lumbar disks which all docs say is not the cause; and 4. fibromyalgia was mentioned by a chiropractor who couldn't help me. The most relief I've gotten is from a physical therapist. She manipulates my spine by loosening restrictions in the facets which adjoin each vertebrae. But this doesn't completely relieve my symptoms by any means. She also gave me exercises to stretch my hip and butt and hamstring muscles but they too only help a tad bit. Adenomyosis(spelling)? was never brought up by my gynoc, so I don't think it was an issue as I do trust her as surgeon and infertility professional (but who knows?). Do/did you have it, and if so, what were the symptoms? One thought I have for you is, have you tried seeing a good physical therapist? My mother and I both have back problems and the 2 women pt's we go to have really helped us think through our situations and consider different angles. If there was one health professional who could be your kind of 'hub' from which alternative approaches can be tried, I think that helps (at least gives me a bit of hope). Don't know if your rheumatologist is this, by the way (dumb question), what exactly is a rheumatologist? I'm concerned too about your mental health due to your condition. Do you get angry or stressed or depressed at all about your pain? I did for awhile and took Zoloft to help even out my moods, but went off of it thinking this hysterectomy would be by saving grace. Anyway, I hope you can stay hopeful while you continue your search. I've read some other web entries of women who say hysterectomy did not cure their endometriosis which conflicts with what my gynoc told me. If this is the case, I wonder if you and I both may still have it and it may be attached to your spine or nerves and my muscles as well. I'd like to hear how you're doing as time goes by. If you keep 'back pain' as your subject line I'll check in. Good luck Wendi. t noe
