Effectiveness of manual inspection of uterus and ovaries by placing hand in the vaginal canal? From: Meridoc (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu May 31 12:37:04 2001
I know I am ignorant of the diagnostic procedures for detecting endometriosis, polyps and tumors in and around the uterus. I understood that it took an ultrasound or laparoscopy. Our Doctor has on three occasions placed his hand completely up the vaginal canal causing intense pain lasting a minimum of a week. He has commented that he felt a lump in the uterus but due to a fever suggested that it may be an infection to take antibiotics and see him again in two weeks to do this all again. He did not even suggest an ultrasound, which is less painful and to be honest less humiliating. Anyone have similar experiences as I am concerned that he may have another agenda or may simply be incompetent.
