Re: Endometriosis.....and my two choicesFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon May 28 01:11:46 2001
Carolyn, Forget about scraping and cauterizing the endo -- that will not get rid of the endo. Educate yourself before even considering surgery with your regular gyn -- very important. EXCISION (cutting out) the endo yields the best result. *****Doesn't sound to me like your gyn is an endo specialist (I don't mean to offend you, rather I'm trying to save you from not only a wasted surgery, but also from the possibility of ending up worse rather than better). *******The most important decision you must make re surgery is ***WHO**** will be your surgeon*****. Extensive endo experience and skill of the surgeon should be your primary concern. Endo is difficult enough for the specialists to excise. http://www.scmc.org/endo/html/questions.html http://www.scmc.org/endo/html/reprinta.html http://www.womenssurgerygroup.com/default.asp http://www.womenssurgerygroup.com/physicians/ http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/8509/endokit.html Do your research first, get a 2nd opinion with a doc who has more experience with endo, try dietary changes (do a forum archive search on endo and diet, also search the thread "I have much less pain"), then if you are in such pain that you feel surgery is necessary, at least you will be able to make a more educated decision re surgeon, etc.. If you tell us in what city and state you live, someone on the forum may be able to direct you to a doc in your area who is more knowledgeable re endo surgery. Re the depot lupron -- I won't try it myself. Some have found it to be helpful, others have not (to put it mildly). It is only a stopgap -- when you quit the depot lupron, the endo symptoms return.
